How do I reach my target audience? This is a question that actually came up during one of our one-on-one coaching sessions. One of our members was getting her coaching session and she wanted to reach her audience on Instagram, and it was a very specific audience of African-American women who buy jewelry. Her question was, "I don't want to get in front of everybody on Instagram, I want to get in front of the women who are most likely to buy." It was an excellent question.
We went through and I showed her basically everything that I'm going to be showing you in this webinar. It's not enough to be on the right social network, because Facebook has a billion and a half users, other networks are getting more and more users everyday so you want to make sure that you're not just getting in front of the right people but you're getting their attention. That all starts with knowing your audience.
If you're starting a business you probably are not quite sure of this, but the best way for you to identify your target audience is to take our social media strategy class. It's the first stop that I recommend for everyone at socialmediaonlineclasses.com, even if you are an advanced marketer I still recommend that you go through this because it really allows you to fine-tune who your customers are and where they are on social media. These are the two lessons. There are six lessons in this class, these are the two that are most relevant to reaching your target audience. This is your first stop.
To know your audience is the first step of reaching them and you'll going to do that in the social media strategy class. Once you've done that, there are four main ways that you can reach your target audience online. The first is with content, because once you know who your target audience is you'll know what types of content they're interested in.
If you are trying to reach African-American women who want to buy jewelry the content that you show them is going to be very different than the content you would show someone who just likes to look at different jewelry designs, or who wants to learn how to make their own jewelry. You'll have a very specific idea of what content will appeal to your most profitable target audience, and we're going to look at each of these four ways more in depth.
Once you've got your content then you can start using hashtags, which help people who are searching find what they're looking for on social media. There are certain social networks where hashtags work really well, and again they help you hone in on that target audience. The hashtag that somebody uses when they're looking to buy jewelry is very different than someone who is a jewelry designer, and we'll be taking a deeper look at that in just a moment.
You can also use social media tagging to mention people and brands in your content and they get notified that they've been mentioned, and we'll take a look at that as well. Then lastly, you can always advertise. All of these are free organic ways of reaching your audience. Advertising is a way that you will be guaranteed to reach your audience, so if you try this and they're working but not quite as quickly as you would like them to then you can do advertising.
