Webinar Transcript

How do I reach my target audience? This is a question that actually came up during one of our one-on-one coaching sessions. One of our members was getting her coaching session and she wanted to reach her audience on Instagram, and it was a very specific audience of African-American women who buy jewelry. Her question was, "I don't want to get in front of everybody on Instagram, I want to get in front of the women who are most likely to buy." It was an excellent question.

We went through and I showed her basically everything that I'm going to be showing you in this webinar. It's not enough to be on the right social network, because Facebook has a billion and a half users, other networks are getting more and more users everyday so you want to make sure that you're not just getting in front of the right people but you're getting their attention. That all starts with knowing your audience.

If you're starting a business you probably are not quite sure of this, but the best way for you to identify your target audience is to take our social media strategy class. It's the first stop that I recommend for everyone at socialmediaonlineclasses.com, even if you are an advanced marketer I still recommend that you go through this because it really allows you to fine-tune who your customers are and where they are on social media. These are the two lessons. There are six lessons in this class, these are the two that are most relevant to reaching your target audience. This is your first stop.

To know your audience is the first step of reaching them and you'll going to do that in the social media strategy class. Once you've done that, there are four main ways that you can reach your target audience online. The first is with content, because once you know who your target audience is you'll know what types of content they're interested in.

If you are trying to reach African-American women who want to buy jewelry the content that you show them is going to be very different than the content you would show someone who just likes to look at different jewelry designs, or who wants to learn how to make their own jewelry. You'll have a very specific idea of what content will appeal to your most profitable target audience, and we're going to look at each of these four ways more in depth.

Once you've got your content then you can start using hashtags, which help people who are searching find what they're looking for on social media. There are certain social networks where hashtags work really well, and again they help you hone in on that target audience. The hashtag that somebody uses when they're looking to buy jewelry is very different than someone who is a jewelry designer, and we'll be taking a deeper look at that in just a moment.

You can also use social media tagging to mention people and brands in your content and they get notified that they've been mentioned, and we'll take a look at that as well. Then lastly, you can always advertise. All of these are free organic ways of reaching your audience. Advertising is a way that you will be guaranteed to reach your audience, so if you try this and they're working but not quite as quickly as you would like them to then you can do advertising.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get the most up-to-date classes on every social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me.  I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com!

How to Beat Social Media Overwhelm

By Maria Peagler

Marketing your business is a journey — one that can feel overwhelming at times.

It helps to have a sherpa to guide you along that path.

Here at SMOC, members get an instant solution to social media overwhelm: Learning Tracks.

What are they?  Your complete guide to a single topic (including content for beginners up to power users). When you're ready to go beyond a class, that's where Learning Tracks come into play.

Let's take a closer look —

We have 7 learning tracks, as shown below:

Learning Tracks Conquer Social Media Overwhelm

How are learning tracks different from classes? Excellent question!

Classes are just the start of your learning here at SMOC: they're complemented by webinars, infographics, your mastermind group, coaching, a swipe file and blog posts.

How can you find everything available to you without having to wade through all that? That's what Learning Tracks do for you.

Think of them as digital marketing playlists, making learning accessible.

Let's take a closer look at each one, in alphabetical order:

Blogging Learning Track

SMOC has always offered blog posts & webinars on content marketing, but lately I've been getting a lot of requests for a class on blogging. Late in 2016, I not only developed our brand new Blogging 101 course, but also the Blogging Learning Track.

blogging learning track topics Socialmediaonlineclasses

Blogging Learning Track at Socialmediaonlineclasses.com

Why? Because blogging is so much more than installing WordPress and starting to write.

How do you generate content? Get traffic? Earn revenue? Keep technical headaches to a minimum?

The SMOC Blogging Learning Track answers those questions and much, much more. It offers infographics, webinars, and more to help you build and maintain a thriving blog.

Content Repurposing Learning Track

Where am I going to get all the content I need for marketing?

That's what you'll learn in the Content Repurposing Learning Track.

You learn how to take a single piece of content (a Facebook post, for example), and turn it into 30 days of marketing.  At least. I often get 2 - 5 years from my content.

Yes, really.

How to get more content, working for you 24/7, in less time:

Email Marketing Learning Track

We don't offer an Email Marketing course at SMOC, but we do have multiple resources on how to do it.

In fact, I recommend SMOC members use both social media & email marketing together. It's the ultimate tag-team combination to generate leads and follow up with them.

Here's our Email Marketing Learning Track:

Local Business Learning Track

Local businesses have special needs when it comes to marketing (not a one-size fits all approach).

You get webinars, infographics, and case studies that show you how local brands are rocking their social media (many of them SMOC members).

SEO Learning Track

Everyone wants their site to rank higher in online search (this is a truth I've learned after years of 1:1 coaching sessions).

While our SEO 101 class is the best way to start, this is a big topic. So I'm continually adding case studies and webinars of additional ways to rank your brand online.

Here's our SEO Learning Track:

Visual Content Marketing Learning Track

The web is a visual place: which begs the question:

"Where do I get all the images I need for marketing? I'm not a graphic designer!"

I get it: you're a small business owner wearing many hats, and now you've got to come up with Pinterest-worthy images too?

There is a simple way to get outstanding designs, using free or low-cost tools. That's what you'll learn how to do in our Visual Content Marketing Learning Track (I call it Visual Storytelling):

Webinar Transcript

The one thing that I have learned by doing coaching here at socialmediaonlineclasses.com is that every brand wants to rank higher in online search. It doesn't matter if you're a solopreneur, if you're a large company, if you are in business to business, if you're in business to consumer, if you're an author, if you are a jewelry designer, if you're a consultant, if you're a services provider. Everyone wants their brand to rank higher in online search. It's what we spend a significant amount of time on in our one on one coaching sessions.

Now we already have a significant number of resources here at socialmediaonlineclasses.com on how to rank higher in search. That's what we're going to be covering today. I'm not going to be going over what is already available in your classes. What I'm going to be doing is pointing you in the right direction as to what resources you should be taking. Then we're going to talk about some advanced tactics and some new tools that you have at your disposal here at socialmediaonlineclasses.com.

We're going to take a look at three things in today's webinar. The first is how to rank your website or blog better in online search. Now this is one of the easier things to do, and it's the most powerful thing that you can do, but I also realize that not everybody has that option. You may not have your own website. Or if you do, you may not have access to the SEO portion of it, or your developer just may not be responsive.

If that's the case, we're going to talk about how you can still rank your brand better in online search by using other websites and other tools that you have at your disposal. Then I'm going to show you how to spy on your competition. The reason I'm including this is because I hear frequently from our members, "This person is ranking higher than me and I don't know why." What we'll often do in our coaching sessions is a bit of an advanced tactic, which is spying on your competition. Now we're doing it ethically of course, as everything is that we do here at Social Media Online Classes. We can also do this in your one on one coaching session, but I'm going to empower you to show you how to do this on your own.

We are going to go ahead and first of all talk about your website and blog SEO. Now this is also known in the SEO world as on-site SEO or on-page SEO, which is kind of a geeky term for SEO for the websites that you own and control. If you own a website or a blog and you can get into the backend and change some of the settings, that is on-site SEO. It's some of the most powerful SEO tactics that you can do.

The very first place that I want you to go in socialmediaonlineclasses.com is the SEO 101 class. That's actually a link. If you go through this slide deck in the webinar replay, it will take you directly to this class. The reason that this class is so important is because it explains to you in layman's terms what you can do to rank your brand higher in online search without being an SEO geek. You can take control of your own SEO. This class teaches you how to do it.

This class is going to be important no matter whether you're doing SEO for your own site or on different sites, as I'll show you later. Everything that you're going to be doing, you need to learn about first here in SEO 101. It all starts with learning what your keywords are, which is basically using the same language as your customers. Then we'll go into changing the keywords and language that you're using on your website in anywhere from your domain into your content. Then we're going to look at doing some things off-site SEO, which is what we'll be talking about in a moment.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get the most up-to-date classes on every social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me.  I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com!

Client Testimonial for Socialmediaonlineclasses.com

By Maria Peagler

Socialmediaonlineclasses.com reviews testimonials paid for itself in the first week

Our members see results fast, in businesses just like yours. Our clients are small-to-medium business owners, in B2C, B2B, brick-and-mortar and online.

Watch this brief video to hear the results Mavis got for her business and the new career she developed from Socialmediaonlineclasses.com (transcript follows the video):

The membership paid for itself, in the first week, I can honestly tell you it's the best money I've spent all year. It's not a negotiable thing anymore, I have to have the classes. Particularly because of the new information that comes out literally weekly. Weekly Facebook and Instagram changes, it changes so fast and Maria is ahead of the game all the time.

Hi, I'm Mavis from Miss Mavis's Fun House. I met Maria Peagler probably 15 or so years ago and she had just started social media business and I was really fascinated. It took a few years before I actually became one of her students, but when I did my life sincerely changed.

"Socialmediaonlineclasses.com sincerely changed my life."

I have my own business, which is a fiber art business. I am a small batch maker. I make primarily now kitchen towels and other assorted things. I wanted to promote them and I knew that there was something missing and I just didn't know what it was. I started taking Maria's classes, and she guided me through so many little things and my business just boomed. I mean, I started getting orders from people that I've never met and places I've never heard of, remote islands off the coast of New England, places in Florida, some place in the middle of absolute nowhere, where they barely have electricity, and out in Oregon, everywhere. People that would never have known about my art had it not been for social media.

My business just boomed. I started getting orders from people that I've never met and from places I've never heard of.

The biggest misconception about social media is that you just put something up there and it's there and it's going to go viral. That just doesn't happen. You have to have a combination of so many little things, like the right size and the right video, and say the right things, and posting them at the right time.

I learned so much from Maria. A lot of it's just become second nature, but the beauty of it is, is that every week Maria comes out with something new, and it's all in short little bits.

Believe me, I have a short attention span, I can barely remember to walk out the car and get something, and then I come back in and I don't even remember what I went out there for. Maria's lessons are about 10 minutes long.

She gives a lot of personal attention. She is an amazing mentor. My favorite part of my whole month is the 20 minute coaching session. She answers all my questions so easily. It's all bite-size, and you do not have to be a guru, you do not have to be a geek, you just have to know ... If you can turn on your computer, if you just know how to do that, then everything else, Maria will guide you through. I'd highly, highly recommend social media online classes. It has sincerely changed my life.

If you can turn on your computer — if you just know how to do that — everything else, Maria will guide you through.

In addition to doing my own business, I have become a social media manager for other businesses, and just today I got testimonials from the business owner about how much her business had increased and that she had had people calling her from far, far away, that had seen the Facebook post and the Instagram post. She is a brick and mortar in Jasper, Georgia, and she's selling like in Ohio, by people who have never ever seen her, met her, or even been anywhere near Jasper, Georgia, never heard of it. She's selling from the Facebook post. I learned all these techniques that I'm using for Cathy, from Maria Peagler at Socialmediaonlineclasses.com.

  • how to spy on your competition ethically — and find out why they are ranking better than you
  • use tactics you won't learn anywhere else!

Plus, plenty of time for Q&A, so come with questions, so sign up today!

Webinar Transcript

Your first 100 days is about doing big things. It's the first of the year, it's a new presidential term here in the US, and there is a tradition in US history of presidents setting forth their first 100-day agenda. Our current president elect, Donald Trump, has done that. Franklin Roosevelt, in 1933, was the very first president to do this. He laid out his agenda for working with congress for the first 100 days of his term. Every president since Roosevelt has done the same thing.

What it does is set the expectation for a very high level of productivity. There have been studies that show that it actually works. That the first 100 days is by far the most productive of any presidential term. Actually, it was Franklin Roosevelt who had the most productive term. That's what we're going to be doing, is to set a 100-day agenda to be highly productive toward one big goal.

Now I talked about this in a blog post four years ago when Barack Obama was sworn in for his second term. I did a three-blog-post series on this, on setting your social media goals, creating an action plan, and measuring your results. These are actual links that you can use to go to that series of blog posts.

In those blog posts I share a case study of an actual socialmediaonlineclasses.com graduate who got some additional coaching with me beyond her regular monthly coaching. We did some big, big things for her. She was coming out with her fifth book, I think. She wanted to sell a lot of copies of that book so that she could continue with her publisher in getting book contracts. You see the whole action plan and goals that we set out to do. I recommend, if you're really interested in this, you can also go take a look at that. But I did in that 2013, it's four years old, and things have changed. I've done an updated version with far more resources in this blog post.

Let's take a look and see what the number one thing everybody wants to get out of the webinar today is. I'm not seeing anything. Hey guys, Saul and Robyn, y'all write and tell me what the number one thing that you want to see from today's webinar is. I'll make sure to cover that.

What are the big steps in developing your first 100-day agenda? The first thing you're going to do is to set SMART goals. We will talk about the different parts of a SMART goal and what it looks like, and what it does not look like. We'll talk about creating a no-fail action plan. This is where the real work starts. Then third, you'll learn how to measure your results without being a spreadsheet wonk. I have got a really good dummy's guide to measuring your results, which is what I need, because after you've done all this it should be easy to measure results. If you've done the work in SMART goals and creating a plan, measuring your results should be easy because it's something you're going to be doing over and over again.

Let's get started with those SMART goals. What is a SMART goal? Now y'all have probably already heard this before, but I am a huge fan of SMART goals. SMART is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. When you set your goal, you want to make sure that you state it in these terms. I looked back on every coaching session that I've done here at socialmediaonlineclasses.com. There's really two things that everybody wants. The first one is to rank higher in search engine results and the second one is more Facebook fans.

Now more Facebook fans is a good goal but it's not necessarily going to impact your bottom line the way SEO will. I really wanted to focus on SEO, because this is a big, big goal. The way that most people state this is, "I need to rank higher in online search." That's a perfect way to say that because you know it's succinct, it's short, it's what you need.

However, it's too vague to be a SMART goal. Let's take a look at those elements of a SMART goal again: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. What does that look like? If we restate our goal of ranking higher in online search as a SMART goal, what is it? First thing we want to do is be specific. We want to rank higher in online search, but what do we want to rank? Is it our website? If it is, what page on your website? It could be that you want to rank your Amazon store or your Etsy store. It could be that you want to rank your blog or a specific blog post. It could be that it's a completely separate website.

I did a coaching session yesterday with a woman who is an elementary music school teacher. She makes hundreds of sales of her lesson plans on a site called Teachers Pay Teachers. I actually used that last year when I homeschooled my son. It's an excellent website. She wants her Teachers Pay Teachers website to rank, and her blog. She has a Blogspot blog, which is really not awesome for SEO, but she was wanting to know if she needed to change it, and she doesn't. You want to know specifically what do you want to rank and where do you want it to be on at least ... I'm saying at least page two of Google search within 90 days.
