Hop Off the Entrepreneurial Treadmill with These 10 Business Automation Tutorials

By Maria Peagler

10-business-automation-tutorials-socialmediaonlineclasses

Who runs your life: you or your business?

Entrepreneurs face often-insurmountable challenges: while some people thrive under that pressure (Marissa Mayer), others feel overwhelmed by the constant flux of change and a 24/7 culture.

Compound that stress during your busiest time of year and you're likely exploding over the small stuff.

So what's a budding (or seasoned) entrepreneur to do?

Hop off the entrepreneurial treadmill:  learn to anticipate and manage your biggest business challenges (especially during those crazy seasons) by automating the small stuff that takes up so much of your time and brain power . . .

. . . leaving you to focus on the big rocks in your business, and your life.

How? With this entrepreneurial guide to automating your business — and your life — so you can enjoy both again. You'll learn how to:

  • automate social media (of course)
  • delegate work to a virtual assistant
  • manage your workload during the busy season
  • automate your blog posts (without looking a robot)

Webinar Transcript

Maria Peagler: All right. Once you've planned your promos, then it's time to plan your content. This is the regular content that you do day in and day out as part of your marketing. The first thing that I recommend is that you identify seasonal topics, and here's why I say that. You need to be on topic for what your customers are thinking about right now. If you're an accounting firm, and it's October, you know that you're doing corporate taxes for your corporate clients, and you've got that October 15th deadline coming up. You need to be planning content around corporate tax filing season. Same thing for April 15th. Nobody wants to think about tax receipts in June. That's probably when they should be thinking about it, but they're not. Even what they should be doing and they are doing are two different things. You want to be top of mind when people are thinking about you.

For example, if you're a hair salon, this is a B2C example, business to consumer, come March, April, May, it's prom time. That's big prom up-do season. The summer months are weddings. You've also got homecoming. You've got all kinds of things. The holidays. You want to think about what you're clients are thinking about. You need to stay on topic with what's important to them in that particular month of the year.

A lot of people start thinking about in July what they need to do for Christmas. A lot of photographers, artists, quilters, anything that takes any kind of time, they're thinking about it in July. I'm not, but they are. If those are your clients, that's what you need to be talking about.

Then you want to identify the types of content that you're going to be creating. Is it a blog post? If so, what will you need for the blog post. You're going to need to do research for the content. Will you need images? Will you need any kind of links? What types of things do you need for that blog post? What about for your social media posts? We are in a very visual world now. Almost any social media post you do needs an image with it. If you're going to be linking to something, are you linking to your webpage? Are you linking to a video, to an offer? Do you need to create that content? Ask yourself what you need to do for your social media most, and then also multimedia. Images, slide shows, videos, live stream videos. Anything like that. Plan out when you're going to do it and what you're going to need for it.

This is really, really important, especially for anybody who is doing social media professionally. If you are a freelancer, a consultant, or an agency, you need to be able to plan out not only your content, but your client's content ahead of time.

Maria Peagler: is Snapchat for you? Is it right for your business? Let's take a look at the demographics. First of all, Snapchat has the youngest audience of any social network. It's basically high school and college students. You can see here that 60% of its audience and really this is at its core is high school and college students. Now, yes, there are older people using it. Robin, this may be where your audience comes in. Robin had a couple of celebrities visit her, the Valley Hive which is her organic honey farm and store, and they shared about it on Snapchat. It could be that they are in this older group but probably have a lot of younger fans.

At the heart, at its heart, you have to ask yourself, "Are high school and college students going to be buying or interested in what I have to offer?" because that is the core audience. They're the ones who are also the heavy users of Snapchat. I could tell you that both of my sons have Snapchat accounts but they don't use it. I've been asking all of my high school and college age and even young adult relatives, "Do you use Snapchat?" Most of them say, "No." They have an account, but they don't have the personality that lends itself to Snapchat and you're going to see what that it is in just a few moments. Now, Snapchat has as its icon a ghost. The ghost is a reminder that anything that you do on Snapchat disappears. Think of it as ghostly content. It's not going to be on there longer than 24 hours.

Now, Snapchat is mobile only. It is a smartphone app. It's for pictures and video that you take with your smartphone. Again, it's disappearing images and video. Here is where the personality of Snapchat comes in. It is very fast-paced, very fast-paced. Your snaps, which are your images, can appear from anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds and then they are gone. You get to determine how long that is. Your videos can only be up to 10 seconds, so it's very fast-paced. It's also, what I call it, it's a social network with an attitude. It's irreverent.

If you think about who its users are, high school and college students, it makes sense. They've got a lot of attitude. That's what you see in their Snapchat content. You're going to see that in the examples that I share later on. Now, what are people doing on Snapchat? These are a couple of snaps that I took when I was doing the training for this. This is just my computer and the image for this bonus webinar. This is just a selfie. People love to write on top of their snaps, and that's something that you can do within Snapchat, and I'm going to show you how to do that in a few minutes.

People do a lot of talking. There are some people who literally snap every detail of their lives. "I have a cold. I just got out of a meeting," you know, that kind of stuff. They do a lot of showing. If they're at an event, they might take a little video of it. Marge, you'll see a lot of fashion brands that do brief runway videos. You see a lot of that. They do a lot of silly photos and you're going to see that in my examples. They love to draw and do emjois and icons on their photos. It's great for events. It's really good for events because it's super-easy to do. You snap a photo, you take a quick video and post it and boom, you're done.
