The Perfect Social Media Post [WEBINAR EXCERPT]

By Janice Deleon

Video Transcript

The original blog post appear here.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get classes on every major social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me. I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com.

Maria Peagler: The big social network that everybody wants to know about is Facebook. What does the perfect post on Facebook look like? Well we’re going to start from the simplest to the most complicated. The simplest post on Facebook that you can do for a business is a link post, now you can do a plain text status update, you could do that without linking to anything or having any kind of an image here, but if you want to drive results for your business, whether it is to make sales, get leads, drive traffic to your website you need to be posting a significant amount of content with actionable links in your post, and almost every post that I do on social media has a link that goes back to my blog, or my website somewhere and they also almost every single post I do has an image, because in 2015 and definitely in the years forward social media is a visual business, in that the better the visuals you can have, the more reach, the more engagement and frankly the more business you’re going to get from it.

Here’s how you do a link post in Facebook, you’re going to type your text in and then you paste the link, and it can be the long link or it can be a shortened link, and then what happens is Facebook is smart enough that it’s going to pull in that image that’s on that webpage, now if there’s not an image you won’t see one here, but then it also will pull in the title of the page of the blog post, and it will show your fans the link that you will be going to, it tries to be as transparent as possible about if you click on either this image or this link, this is what you’re going to see.

That’s the simplest post that you can do on Facebook, and I’ll tell you this has been one of my more popular posts, this was, it was kind of a case study, it doesn’t really have a whole lot to do with social media but it’s about how I can run my business on a chrome book that costs less than three hundred dollars and I included my favorite apps. A chrome book is something that is designed to run exclusively on the internet. You can’t download any programs so you can’t use Microsoft word or quick books or anything like that, and I went to a conference and had no WiFi and so I talked about how I was able to use it and I actually tweeted this out and tagged ever note, which is a note taking app if you’re not familiar with it, in the post and they re tweeted it to their four hundred thousand followers on Twitter. That was a real success.

Now the second perfect post that you can do on Facebook is a link and photo post. Now how’s that different from what we just looked at in a link post? Because this also has a photo, well sometimes the photo that Facebook pulls from your website or a blog post isn’t the one that you want to show on the post and that was the case right here. This is my most popular and successful Facebook post I’ve ever done, and I have had an ad running to this continually since I think January or February of 2015, because this is a, it’s an epic blog post and it’s one that is a great introduction to social media online classes, again I’m linking to my blog, but what I did first before I pasted that link in here is I uploaded this image to Facebook, then I typed this in, put the link, now notice Facebook did not pull in any of that information at the bottom the way it did here.

People are not going to see that, but I try to be as transparent as possible in telling people this is an info graphicing guide and this is what you’re going to get, and notice I was able to format this post. It’s got some bulleted items here with special characters. I used a hashtag in it, I put the link twice, I put it at the beginning of the post and at the end of the post, because a lot of times Facebook will truncate this it’ll be like it won’t show all of it, it’ll say read more here, people may not see the one at the bottom, and I just want to make it as easy as possible, because the majority of people who are on Facebook are on their mobile device, and so if they’ve already scrolled past this link and they’re looking at this I want to make it really easy for them to click. This is a link and a photo and the time that you use this is when Facebook is not going to pull in the photo that you want to display on your post.

Then the third type of perfect post that you can do on Facebook is a video post. Now Facebook wants your video. I can not emphasize this enough, if you do nothing else in 2016 upload a video to Facebook and it doesn’t have to be fancy. This video is an excerpt of one of my bonus webinars, it’s less than five minutes, but videos get a ton of reach on Facebook, they will reward you handsomely because they want to compete with you tube, they want people to stay in Facebook, they don’t want people clicking on a video and going over to YouTube and out of Facebook, they want people to stay in Facebook.

They reward you with a really good reach on your videos and once you upload a video and it’s pretty simple, I just always put watch at the beginning of my videos to be very clear it’s a video and you can see that it’s got the little play icon here. I just let people know exactly what it is that they’re going to see. The average life of a tweet is twenty minutes, how do you get noticed on Twitter without being on it all day, and videos do quite well, and I’ve actually started advertising some of my videos and it’s the cheapest advertising you can ever do, and I’m going to update Facebook 103 and talk about that. These are the three posts in Facebook that are the perfect posts.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get classes on every major social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me. I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com.

Best of the Best for 2015: Social Media Articles, Case Studies, Infographics, Videos & More

By Maria Peagler

BEST SOCIAL MEDIA TRAINING ARTICLES VIDEOS INFOGRAPHICS INTERVIEWS

This is a post you're gonna want to bookmark.

As 2015 comes to a close, we wanted to gift-wrap our best advice in a tidy package — our most popular articles, case studies, infographics, and interviews from this year — making them easy for you to find and use.

2015 was a year bringing great change to online marketing, including:

  • Facebook rolled out photo carousel posts, a unified experience across all devices, and the safety-check feature
  • Twitter increased their 140-character limit and added emoticons
  • Instagram now offers advertising
  • Pinterest rolled out buyable pins to those using major shopping carts
  • LinkedIn bought Lynda.com and Slideshare.net, becoming a more comprehensive business-to-business platform

It can be tough to keep up with all the changes, and even more challenging to identify which of all those new features are truly relevant to your business.

What Will You Get in This Guide?

The Best of the Best of 2015: Social Media Articles, Case Studies, Infographics and Interviews is a comprehensive look at the state of social media for small business owners, crowdsourced by your peers.

This guide offers the most popular content we published on our blog in 2015, and gives you a choice of how to consume it:

  • Want a deep dive into a topic? Check out the ultimate guides.
  • Just want a quick overview? Download the infographics.
  • Learn better by watching? Review our best videos of 2015.
  • Like to listen to your favorite podcast while you work out? Listen to our most popular interview.
  • No matter what business you're in or how you like to learn, you'll find something here for you.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get classes on every major social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me. I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com.

Maria Peagler: This is going to be how to identify your revenue goals. Whether you’ve met them, what your most profitable marketing is, and how you can do more of it in the upcoming years. This is a perfect thing to do at year end.

Now, the way that you’re going to identify the most profitable 20% of your marketing is a 3 step process. The first thing you’re going to do is setup some marketing goals, or revenue goals. These are going to be goals that we will setup online, and I’ll also be showing you how you can measure the most profitable marketing you do, even if you haven’t setup goals. It’s actually going to be easier to do if you setup goals, and you’ll see why that is.

Then, once you’ve got your goals, you’re going to review reports, and again, if you’re not a spreadsheet person, I promise your eyes will not glaze over. By setting up goals, it makes this easy. After you review your reports, then you’re going to identify the top 20% of your revenue generating campaigns, and products, so that you can focus on those in the upcoming year, and be more profitable.

Now, the way that you do all of this is in Google Analytics. Now, this is a double edged sword, because Google Analytics has more data than most people could ever want. So, anything that you need to know about how people find your Website, what they do on your Website, how they buy on your Website, what they buy, how much they buy, what time of day they buy, the demographics, all those things are on your Website, or on Google Analytics. However, the downside to that is it takes a lot of work to drill down to that data.

What I’m going to be showing you today is the most effective and efficient use of your time in identifying your profitability. It’s how to get into Google Analytics, get what you need, and then get out so that you can be more profitable. It’s basically the same focus that I have on my training classes. I want you to be able to get in, get what you need in your lessons, and then get out and do it. This is the same for Google Analytics. Unless you’re a data works, you don’t want to spend all day in it.

Now, I’m not going to cover the basics. This is a rather advanced webinar, but I do have the basics available for you within social media online classes. So, if you need to know how to install Google Analytics, there’s a plugin that you can use, and you can click on this link in the slide deck, which will be available in the bonus webinar vault, and it will take you to the blog post for this. There’s also a blog post I did a couple of years ago on how to measure your yearend social media results. This is more about correlation than it is about proven statistics, but it’s a great place to start.

Then, if you’d like to know more about how people use your Website, the Google Analytics Made Simple bonus webinar is an excellent resource. I’m assuming that you have already got Google Analytics installed, and that you’ve probably taken a look at it, or your web master has. Here’s how we’re going to dive in and identify your profitability. The first thing that you need to do is to setup some goals in Google Analytics.

In Socialmediaonlineclasses.com, you get classes on every major social network, infographics, webinars, and 1:1 coaching with me. I hope to see you inside Socialmediaonlineclasses.com.
