Maria Peagler: This is who I'm creating an infographic for and Becky wanted an infographic done on five reasons why you should grow a peony in your backyard. We did a little bit of work behind the scenes, very simple. I just asked Becky to send my what she wanted included in the infographic. She sent me five images and titled them reason one, two, three, four and five. Thank you for keeping that so simple, Becky. She sent me her logo and the text that she wanted in this infographic. Now if you haven't used Canva before, this is it right here. It's www.canva, C-A-N-V-A, .com and this is what it looks like before you sign up.
It's a free tool and it takes a little bit, it doesn't work the way a lot of graphic design tools work because their whole, like I said, it's a one stop shop and so their whole method of user interface is a little bit different. You sign up here with your user name and password or you can just do it with Facebook, I think that's how I did it. Once you've done that and you go to Canva, it's going to look like this. Now this is a little overwhelming but I'm going to tell you exactly what all this stuff is and how you get started. The way that Canva works is you start by selecting what type of creation or design you want to make.
Is it for social media, is it a Power Point presentation, is it a poster, is it a Facebook timeline cover, they have all kinds of things here that you can create. The thing that you need to understand is that they have predetermined sizes, so like a Facebook post would be 940 by 788 pixels wide. You can also use custom dimensions but all of these are templates. Becky, here are your templates right here. Down here, these are all the things that I've created in Canva. I create a lot of the images that we use in the Facebook group and on my Facebook posts here in Canva I've created three infographics.
This is one, this is two, this is three, actually four from Canva and you'll notice here that it doesn't say infographic. There's no infographic here when you first log into Canva. You need to click on more and then it gives you a ton of stuff here. If you scroll down, you're going to go to blogging and eBooks and over here on the right is infographic. Now it's standard infographic sizes, 800 by 2000, and that's the long infographic size. That's perfect for what we're going to do. I clicked on that and what happens is, it will show me all of these different templates over here on the left, the sidebar.
Now in the Canva sidebar you can search for things that you want, you can select different elements, you can type text, you can select a background color and you can upload your own photos. We're going to use almost all of these as we go along. What I'm going to do is scroll through here and see what template I would like to use. Now I went through here last night just to prepare for this a little bit and I saw a template that is perfect for what we want to use. What I'm looking for here is their division of space because Becky wants five reasons to grow peonies in your backyard.
I want to look for an infographic template that is already divided up into five parts. There's an infographic template here that is perfect for this and I'm just going to keep scrolling down to find it. It's about how to make strawberry jam of all things. We're going to keep going and we're almost there. It just keeps going. Here it is, how to make strawberry jam. Notice here, it has one, two, three, four, five sections, a place for image and text for each. That's perfect. All I'm going to do is drag this over into the Canva editing area and we start from this.
The way that you use this is you basically just go in and edit each of these different parts. I like the way that looks. Okay, five reasons to plant peonies in your backyard, Swenson Gardens and here we go. This is the infographic ...
