Video is the fastest growing area of social media, and probably the most intimidating for small businesses. The first thing business owners think of is big-budget, highly-produced video that takes a lot of time and resources to create. Actually, the most effective videos are the ones that show you and your staff authentically, and give some take away to the viewer. And you can do it for a ridiculously low budget.

Here are a few steps to get started in video, followed by a highly-effective and totally low-budget example from Southwest Airlines:

  1. Keep your video under five minutes, and if possible, under two.
  2. Make it visual, memorable, and teach the viewer something.
  3. Start with the end in mind:  what do you want the viewer to do after watching your video?
  4. After you create multiple videos, create your own YouTube channel.
